A Guided Tour Through I.T. is a two-part class designed for anyone in the recruiting and placement business who can benefit from an overview of information technology. Taught by those with recruiting, account management and leadership backgrounds, the "Guided Tour" will give you the skills to:
- Understand the big picture of IT and computing environments
- Effectively serve clients and hiring managers by understanding their departments, projects, challenges and talent needs
- Thoroughly qualify candidate skills
- Increase your overall confidence level resulting in improved communications and partnerships with managers and candidates
- Improve self-sufficiency in recruiting and selling efforts to be a more valuable contributor
A Guided Tour Through I.T. - Day One Class Description
Audience: This entry-level, foundational class is intended for those with one to 18 months in IT recruiting, placement, sales and HR businesses.
Duration: One day of training, 9:00am - 4:00pm
Prerequisite: Memorization exercise to be completed prior to class
Agenda
1. Memorization prerequisite (sent prior to class)
2. Overview of IT - then and now
3. Review prerequisite - group exercise
4. Server features and functions: platforms, operating systems, networks, databases, applications, languages and other software
5. Software development life cycle (SDLC) and key roles within: Project Manager, Business Analyst, Software Engineer/Programmer Analyst, Database Analyst, Tester, Quality Assurance Analyst, Technical Writer, Implementer, Production Support
6. Role of the IT Architect
7. Web development basics: background, platforms and related development environments - Java EE 5 (J2EE), .NET, emerging technologies
8. The Database Analyst (DBA) role
9. Networking basics and key roles: LAN, MAN, WAN, Help Desk, Systems Administrators
10. Helpful information gathering sheets provided - for use while interviewing candidates and meeting with clients - for all skill areas presented
11. Review - group exercise
12. Summary and wrap-up

A binder is created as we progress through the day with many helpful handouts, illustrations and information gathering and qualifying forms to be used on the job.
A Guided Tour Through I.T. - Day Two Class Description
Audience: This class builds upon the foundation created in "Day One". We recommend that an individual attend "Day One" prior to attending this class, or they have at least 18 months of experience in IT recruiting.
Duration: One day of training, 9:00am - 4:00pm.
Prerequisite: A quiz exercise is provided for completion prior to class.

1. Prerequisite review - group exercise
2. BI (Business Intelligence) and CM (Content Management): qualifying personnel roles; most popular products; enterprise performance management
3. EII (Enterprise Information Integration), BAM (Business Activity Monitoring) and their many uses
4. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), highlighting SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft and Oracle/Siebel: sample implementations; qualifying personnel roles
5. Middleware - specific functions and most popular products
6. Database Management Systems: RDBMS, MDDBMS, ODBMS and most common uses within projects
7. Data Warehousing, Data Transformation and MDM (Master Data Management): sample implementations; qualifying personnel roles
8. I.T. Security and Auditing
9. Web Services - providing clarity to the many varying functionalities and roles: tools and technologies; sample implementations; RIA (Rich Internet Applications) / Web 2.0 implementations; personnel roles
10. EA (Enterprise Architecture) and BPM (Business Process Management): an organization's infrastructure blueprint; role of the enterprise architect
